About John
John’s oil paintings leap off the wall with their clear crisp compositions and glowing colours.
We love his precise detail surrounded by space. This gives the eye something to focus on yet the overall feeling is one of peace from the expanses of gorgeous and also gentle colours.
Although in many galleries throughout the UK and abroad, John is only to be seen at imagianation in St Ives, where he owns a cottage to escape from the London area.
His father and grandfather were both professional painters, and he himself has sold over 10,000 pictures over the last 30 years. His experience shows in the precision and professionalism of his paintings.
John was born in London in 1952. He started painting at school where he experimented with all forms of painting.
Although he became proficient in many media, including pastel and water colour, he soon realised that oils were ideal for his style and gave the fullest expression of his use of colour and light.
He had a spell in the world of interior design, during which time he still continued to paint, holding exhibitions locally and then in most of the major UK cities, but his growing reputation gave him the confidence to concentrate fully on his art from 1978.
Since that date he has gone from strength to strength and his paintings are now in collections in the United States, Japan and Great Britain.
Collectors have noticed the resemblance to other famous artists work but, in our opinion, John has taken the best of many influences to create his own unique styles, or versions of exciting styles.
Close inspection of his work shows remarkable brush control, creating fine detail with a minimum of strokes. This ability to paint so accurately, and at the same time much faster than some other artists, allows John to keep his work more affordable than those who spend many hours or days on one piece.
Works by John Horsewell are in great demand, such is the appeal of his style. Boats, bendy houses, or palette knife landscapes, you will have something very special in your room to take you beyond its four walls.
